Thing 22

I can't believe I'm on Thing 22 ! Three months ago when this journey began I was very excited and nervous at the same time. Now I am so grateful for all I've learned! Thanks for teaching and showing us so many new things ! I enjoyed this journey very much. Some of my favorites were Picture Trail, Big Huge Labs, You Tube, Flickr, Project Playlist, Countdown Widget, Assignment Calculator, Books i Read, i Google Start Page, e.c.t. I am sure I will use these in the future. So let me finish with one of my favorite things in the world "inspirational quotes"...

"Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere." - Chinese Proverb

This lesson was full of great advice! I think the Assignment Calculator ( You can beat the clock!) is a very useful tool! I liked the option for e-mail reminders and 12 - step research guide, and timeline for the project. The Research Project Calculator is another great tool. It will definitely help students in the research process, as it was said guide them and keep them on track. The part "Before you begin your assignment " is filled with great examples "to inspire curiosity in your students".

Thing 20

Wow, this was a lot of information!!! I liked several of the articles/sites mentioned on food for thought. The one future of the book was very interesting! I agree with the following statement by Ross Atkinson " In every age, humankind imagines itself to be moving through a period of transition so acute that the effect borders on the dysfunctional. Our own age is no exception. We long for a simpler past, or for a more focused future, but the fact is that every era is one of profound change, and it is now our turn." I don't know the future, but I can't imagine it without books! Oh, before I forget, I also added weRead ( Books i Read ) to my Facebook page and watched the video, too.

Obviously, " Project Playlist" was my favorite! Smile. I also checked out several other social networks, too. I'm blown away by all that's out there!

I just finished watching the video "Social Networking in Plain English" by Common Craft. I visited Facebook.com and opened a facebook account. I also joined the group "Librarians and Facebook". I agree with the statement made that if our young users are communicating through these networks we need to be able to be there, too. I want to be able to understand what my kids are talking about!Oh,by the way,I added a Facebook Badge to my blog.

Wow, now I even have a Podcast account! Not sure though if I will ever use it. I spend so much time on this "Thing". It took me a while to figure out how to delete one of my RSS feeds.

YouTube must be one of my kids favorite things to do! They've showed me many funny videos. This one I chose because I used to watch it as a child. I used to wait all week for that new episode.I loved to watch this cute little "Maulwurf". This brought back so many memories! I'm so happy I found it on YouTube.

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this thing?! Yes, I was able to attach the Rollyo search widget to my blog but...I guess I'm just a little frustrated right now. I'll try again later.

It was really fun to set up an iGoogle start page! I added several other widgets to my page. I think I will use this account a lot more now. It was also a lot of fun to create a Countdown widget! I took a look at Backpack. Then I created a web calendar( I chose the Google calendar) and made a Ta da list. I know I won't be using this tool much, I'd rather stick to my old method "Pencil & Paper".

Thing 13

The Library Thing tour was interesting! I created another account (now I really wish I would have used the same password on all my accounts...) added several books that I loved as a young teenager, mother, and two I am planning to read whenever I can find the time in this crazy, hectic world... It was cool to see that others liked the book "I am a bunny", too. It will always be one of my all-time favorite books. I must have read it to my kids thousands of times!
I think "Library Thing" could be very useful to some of our patrons that have a hard time remembering what they have already read. This way they can keep a list of everything they've read before. This really helps!
