I can't believe I'm on Thing 22 ! Three months ago when this journey began I was very excited and nervous at the same time. Now I am so grateful for all I've learned! Thanks for teaching and showing us so many new things ! I enjoyed this journey very much. Some of my favorites were Picture Trail, Big Huge Labs, You Tube, Flickr, Project Playlist, Countdown Widget, Assignment Calculator, Books i Read, i Google Start Page, e.c.t. I am sure I will use these in the future. So let me finish with one of my favorite things in the world "inspirational quotes"...

Thing 21
This lesson was full of great advice! I think the Assignment Calculator ( You can beat the clock!) is a very useful tool! I liked the option for e-mail reminders and 12 - step research guide, and timeline for the project. The Research Project Calculator is another great tool. It will definitely help students in the research process, as it was said guide them and keep them on track. The part "Before you begin your assignment " is filled with great examples "to inspire curiosity in your students".

Thing 20
Wow, this was a lot of information!!! I liked several of the articles/sites mentioned on food for thought. The one future of the book was very interesting! I agree with the following statement by Ross Atkinson " In every age, humankind imagines itself to be moving through a period of transition so acute that the effect borders on the dysfunctional. Our own age is no exception. We long for a simpler past, or for a more focused future, but the fact is that every era is one of profound change, and it is now our turn." I don't know the future, but I can't imagine it without books! Oh, before I forget, I also added weRead ( Books i Read ) to my Facebook page and watched the video, too.

Thing 18
I just finished watching the video "Social Networking in Plain English" by Common Craft. I visited Facebook.com and opened a facebook account. I also joined the group "Librarians and Facebook". I agree with the statement made that if our young users are communicating through these networks we need to be able to be there, too. I want to be able to understand what my kids are talking about!Oh,by the way,I added a Facebook Badge to my blog.

YouTube must be one of my kids favorite things to do! They've showed me many funny videos. This one I chose because I used to watch it as a child. I used to wait all week for that new episode.I loved to watch this cute little "Maulwurf". This brought back so many memories! I'm so happy I found it on YouTube.

It was really fun to set up an iGoogle start page! I added several other widgets to my page. I think I will use this account a lot more now. It was also a lot of fun to create a Countdown widget! I took a look at Backpack. Then I created a web calendar( I chose the Google calendar) and made a Ta da list. I know I won't be using this tool much, I'd rather stick to my old method "Pencil & Paper".

The Library Thing tour was interesting! I created another account (now I really wish I would have used the same password on all my accounts...) added several books that I loved as a young teenager, mother, and two I am planning to read whenever I can find the time in this crazy, hectic world... It was cool to see that others liked the book "I am a bunny", too. It will always be one of my all-time favorite books. I must have read it to my kids thousands of times!
I think "Library Thing" could be very useful to some of our patrons that have a hard time remembering what they have already read. This way they can keep a list of everything they've read before. This really helps!

I watched the Common Craft video, checked out the different library wikis and created a wiki account. The book lovers wiki was cool. I liked the featured book review on " Flushed: How the Plumber saved Civilization". I also added my first comment to Neflin's 23 Things Wiki. It was fun and easy! Yeah! I also learned that wiki means "quick" in Hawaiian. After that I was curious what my name means in Hawaiian. "Palapala" is my Hawaiian name for Barbara. And after that I got even more addicted and typed in all my children's names, let me tell you that was really fun! If you want to find out what your name sounds like in Hawaiian check out the following web site link:http://hawaiiannames.hisurf.com/names-results.lasso Have fun!

I watched the video, read several news stories on all four social media sites mentioned (Digg, Reddit, Newsvine & Mixx). I really don't think I will be using them much. I don't think I have the time to check out all these different sites when I can just go to CNN as my news source. I also e-mailed a BBC news report to one of my Email accounts. The following news video link "Teacher tames lion cubs" is also from BBC.

Delicious! I liked this site very much. It was easy. I like the idea of creating bookmarks and especially to be able to access it from anywhere. It will help me to get and stay organized with my web sites that are useful to me and our patrons.

I really fell in love with PictureTrail. The possibilities are endless! It's awesome! Just wanted to share some pictures of our trip to Lackland AFB, TX. My son's graduation was last month. I think of him all the time and miss him sooo much...
Thing 8
In the past I used Instant Messaging in MySpace(to keep in touch with my older kids) and Yahoo! Messenger. Today I tried "Chat with Neflin". So far no answer... I use Email to communicate with family, friends and colleagues. I also use text messaging for the same reasons. Web conferencing has a lot of advantages. You don't have to leave your work place in order to attend work shops. You don't have to worry about transportation especially when you have an old car like me (1990)!!

Boy, did I have fun searching for images on Flickr! I typed in key words such as sunsets, clouds, nature and found the most beautiful images you can imagine! I could easily post 50 images of beautiful landscapes, flowers, butterflies just breathtaking nature shots. Here is the URL for this gorgeous picture by a photographer on Flickr named CATeyes/Mitch http://www.flickr.com/photos/cateyes/2396582349You can almost smell the cherry blossoms! I've always wanted to go to Washington DC during that time of year. What an awesome photographer he is ! The colors in his pictures are spectacular and his shots are accompanied by inspiring words, which I looove!!! Take time to look at them, pleassee.

Okay, I finally set up an aggregator account, I tried both Bloglines and Google Reader. I was amazed with Google Reader because I didn't even have to add my blog friends, they just "appeared". I thought that was cool. Now that I know what RSS feeds/RSS icons are I'm glad to be able to use this tool.

After searching for blogs about Monet paintings(which I love by the way!!!) I really was surprised with the result. Google blog search gave me 40,524 results in comparison to Technorati's 336. I found a lot of great information and illustration on Google blog search. I'm sure I will use it on my next search!

I spent a lot of time reading different blogs which was fun! I was amazed and very impressed with the creativity of the participants. After reading all the material I agree that libraries have always been customer friendly and welcoming but I also know that change is a fact of life. I will try my best to keep up with the changes of technology so I will be able to assist my patrons better now and in the future. I appreciate the opportunity through 23 things @ Neflin to keep learning! Since I love inspirational/famous quotes, here is one that came to mind:
"Change is the law of life. And those who look only
to the past or present are certain to miss the future."
John F. Kennedy

I just created my first blog. I never thought in a million years I would be "blogging" but thanks to the 23 Things "challenge" I will be trying my best to complete it. Nervous? Yes, a little but on the other hand very excited to learn new things. So here the journey begins...
